DTBird participates in EU LIFE+ Project

DTBird® has been selected to participate in a European LIFE+ project focused on improving the coexistence between wind energy development and wildlife conservation.

The selection was based on DTBird’s unique technical features, transparency in data collection and ability to provide independent information on bird activity around wind turbines.

EU LIFE project in Greece

The project LIFE12 BIO/GR/000554 was developed through the collaboration between the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) and Nature Conservation Consultants (NCC), with financial support from the European Union’s LIFE+ programme.

Furthermore, the initiative aims to improve knowledge and management practices related to the interaction between wind farms and wildlife, contributing to biodiversity conservation while supporting renewable energy development.

The LIFE Programme is the European Union’s funding instrument for environmental, nature conservation and climate action projects.

DTBird installation at the CRES facilities

A DTBird system was installed at the Wind Farm and the Park of Energy Awareness (PENA) operated by CRES in Keratea, Greece.

The system will remain in operation for three years, providing valuable information on bird activity and supporting project monitoring objectives.

Supporting biodiversity and renewable energy

Participation in the LIFE+ project highlights DTBird’s contribution to environmental research and its role in helping wind farm operators reduce bird collision risks.

The project also demonstrates the growing interest of European institutions in technologies that support the compatibility between renewable energy generation and biodiversity protection.
