Bird repeller prototype project advances to Offshore testing phase!
We received great news at the end of last month about the DTBird Anti-Bird Rest Prototype project extension from the ELBE Eurocluster Financial Support To Innovation Call: The project is set to end in June 2025.
The aim is to reduce the attractiveness of floating offshore platforms to birds, preventing perching, roosting, or nesting behaviour. By decreasing bird presence on these critical structures, the risk of collision with wind turbine blades is reduced. Hence, contributing to safer offshore wind operations and improved environmental performance.
Throughout 2024, the team made up of Researcher/Ornithologist Adrián Fernández, Researcher/Ornithologist Jorge Vallela, AI Software Engineers Jesús Campo & Andrés Baamonde, Head of Manufacturing/Installation Ramón Martín, CTO Javier Díaz, and Project Manager Pablo Cos began with the ornithology and testing of various deterrent methods to proceed forward with the Onshore prototype design at our HQ in Madrid.
The DTBird bird repeller prototype has been branded as “DTRepeller”! Representing a new line of deterrence solutions specifically adapted to offshore renewable platforms.
For the remaining part of the project, the team aims to move to an Offshore environment. In order to adapt the DTBird bird repeller prototype, DTRepeller, to a floating platform, manufacture, install, and test it!
We thank ELBE Eurocluster for their support! We look forward to the next steps in developing the DTBird bird repeller prototype toward a real-world offshore application.
