DTBird & DTBat Installations

DTBirdV4D8 model is included in LIFE project

The DTBirdV4D8 model has been installed at the Terna Wind Farm in Thrace (Greece) as part of the LIFE12 BIO/GR/000554 project. This initiative aims to demonstrate practical methods for post-construction assessment and post-construction mitigation of bird collision risks at wind farms.

Continued involvement of DTBird in LIFE projects

DTBird had already taken part in a previous phase of the LIFE programme with the DTBirdV4D4 model, which began operating in early 2016 at the Wind Farm and the Park of Energy Awareness (PENA) of CRES in Keratea (Greece). This earlier participation provided useful operational insights regarding detection accuracy, species behaviour, and mitigation performance under Mediterranean environmental conditions.

Purpose of the new installation

As part of the DTBirdV4D8 LIFE project, the deployment of the DTBirdV4D8 model at the Terna Wind Farm will contribute to:

  • Improving data on bird activity around turbines after construction.
  • Evaluating collision-avoidance behaviour using high-resolution visual and acoustic monitoring.
  • Supporting Greek environmental authorities and research institutions in designing long-term mitigation strategies.

This new installation strengthens the role of DTBird systems in European research projects that explore how wind energy and wildlife protection can coexist through technology and data-driven management.
