DTBird & DTBat Installations

DTBird systems are installed in French Offshore Project

Two years ago, DTBird participated and won an important tender. It covered the supply, installation, commissioning and service of bird monitoring and collision-reduction systems for a French Offshore project located in the Atlantic Sea.

DTBird was selected as a supplier due to its experience at the FINO1 Offshore Platform and the Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm. Since then, the installation phase for the selected three WTGs has progressed. These units were temporarily located in the port before being moved offshore.

The marine DTBird model installed in this project includes 8 daylight cameras, 2 thermal cameras and 10 speakers, DTBird V8N2D10. Additionally, detailed engineering was carried out to define the correct location, fixing and connection of every DTBird element. This work involved close coordination between the Client and the WTG manufacturer.

Project relevance

This project represents the first large-scale DTBird installation in French waters. As a result, it has driven growth in several technical areas within the company to meet the Client’s requirements.
Moreover, the modules installed allow micro-site monitoring around each turbine, providing accurate information about local bird behaviour.

Environmental impact and expected outcomes

The wind farm is expected to deliver abundant data on the species flying and nesting near the turbines. Consequently, the project will support environmental reporting to the French authority DREAL.

Furthermore, a third independent scientific party will participate in evaluating the system’s performance and analysing the information collected.
