DTBird Saitec BlueSATH floating offshore installation

Installation of DTBird Technology on Saitec’s first floating offshore wind deployment

A DTBirdV4N2 system was installed in early June on the BlueSATH prototype, a 1:6 scale model of a 10 MW floating wind turbine developed by Saitec. The unit was assembled at the Astander Shipyard in Santander (Cantabria, Spain), where the floating structure was prepared for offshore testing.

Full 360° monitoring of the Rotor Swept Area

The DTBirdV4N2 model integrates four HD daylight cameras and two HD thermal cameras, allowing complete 360° coverage of the Rotor Swept Area. This configuration enables continuous detection, identification and recording of bird movements in real time under both daylight and low-visibility conditions.

The information collected during the testing phase will offer valuable insights into species presence, behaviour and activity patterns around floating offshore structures. These datasets support environmental assessments and help optimise coexistence between offshore wind development and bird conservation.

Contribution to Saitec’s BlueSATH programme

BlueSATH is Saitec’s first floating offshore wind prototype, aimed at validating SATH (Swinging Around Twin Hull) technology. Once the prototype leaves the shipyard, it will be deployed in El Abra del Sardinero, where it will undergo sea trials to evaluate platform performance, anchoring behaviour and interactions with the marine environment.

Technical support for future offshore projects

DTBird has already delivered engineering and technical support for six offshore projects, accumulating practical experience in system integration, environmental monitoring and configuration of detection modules in floating and fixed offshore platforms.

This deployment reinforces the role of DTBird technologies in pioneering offshore wind developments, especially in floating wind, where environmental monitoring requirements are expanding rapidly.
