II Congreso Eólico Marino AEE

DTBird participated in the II Spanish Offshore Wind Congress!

About the Congress

DTBird’s CEO, Agustín Riopérez, was invited as a Speaker. He joined four other expert panellists to discuss the environmental value of Offshore Wind Farms in the environmental session of the II Spanish Offshore Wind Congress. The event was hosted by the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE in Spanish). It took place from November 6th to November 8th in Las Palmas, in Gran Canaria, and was carried out in the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus.

The II Spanish Offshore Wind Congress is the main national forum dedicated to the development of offshore wind energy in Spain. According to the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE, 2023), the congress brings together policymakers, developers, research institutions and environmental organisations to analyse regulatory frameworks, grid integration, environmental challenges and the industrial opportunities linked to floating offshore wind. The 2023 edition focused on Spain’s Offshore Wind Roadmap, supply-chain capacity, port infrastructure, coexistence with marine activities and environmental impact mitigation.

DTBird’s Contribution

In the session, we shared how our system works and the benefits of employing a camera-based detection system to monitor birds located near offshore wind farms. Since our systems record activity and also (potential) collisions, we provide useful datasets for Operators, Developers, Environmental Administrations, and other stakeholders.

Importance of real-time detection

We also discussed how offshore wind projects benefit from real-time detection technologies that improve environmental monitoring and support impact assessments required for licensing procedures. These datasets help identify sensitive species, refine shutdown protocols and design mitigation strategies tailored to offshore conditions.
