Pioneering technology to safeguard birds and bats in wind farms
In 2005, a group of biologists set out to change the way birds were protected in wind farms.
What began as frustration —confirming bird fatalities without real solutions— evolved into a pioneering project: developing automated systems capable of detecting, deterring, and stopping turbines to protect wildlife.
Today, DTBird and DTBat operate in 17 countries, helping to harmonize wind energy and biodiversity.
We design, manufacture, and install fully automated systems that protect birds and bats in real time across onshore, offshore, and floating wind farms. With over 500 units installed, our systems reduce collisions, prevent unnecessary shutdowns, and support regulatory compliance.

“It was frustrating to see how, in wind farms, environmental protection funds were mostly used to confirm bird fatalities, without improving the scientific understanding of their causes and without taking real action to prevent them.”

At every stage, we’ve innovated to adapt our systems to increasingly demanding environments from marine areas and floating wind farms to stricter regulatory requirements. Our technology plays a key role in offshore wind farms, where traditional monitoring methods fall short. DTBird systems record flights and collisions and can include additional modules to further reduce collision risks.
